Color Veil

Andreas Jaeggi:
"The Color Veil of Oblivion #1 – #4"
Oil on Canvas
11" x 10"
2007

Four little paintings from the Seventies are the base for this movement exercise. My first renditions were done towards the end of my studies at the Basel College of Art & Design in 1976. These free translations of school themes (a fruit- and vegetable stand in Little Basel, the living room at the Grauers', track 9 at the Basel SBB railway station and the buffet hall in the railway station) were done outside the very strict educational program. They came out so cramped that they have bothered me ever since, meaning the past 30 years! I finally decided to paint over these canvases, despite the fact that the depicted motifs still had a strong nostalgic value for me. And now, those mediocre views gracefully disappear under an abstract veil of color.

FarbSchleier

Andreas Jaeggi:
"der FarbSchleier des Vergessens #1 – #4"
Oel auf Leinwand
28 x 24 cm
2007
