Over the inside of the entrance door of many American apartments and houses are placed framed linen pieces with petit point stitchings of morally correct sayings, executed by the lady of the house. I've been fascinated by this kind of artsy-crafty needle work since my very first visit to the US of A in 1976. My own sayings, done by my delicate little fingers, have a slightly different meaning: they are "Minor Blasphemies". In the example shown, we have the French version of the traditional well-wishing to a performer before a show, "Merde !" (Break a Leg). The idea of using this needle work for a child's chair comes from my very contemporary and sharp thinking friend Claudine Landolt.
